A Learning Journey in our "Journeys" feature is a wonderful way to document and celebrate a child's growth and achievements based on the goals you've set for them. It’s like a special record of their progress, where you can capture all the meaningful moments along the way.
You can create multiple Learning Journeys, but we recommend keeping all observations related to a specific goal in one Journey. This helps keep everything organised and makes it easier to see how far your child has come toward reaching their goal!
Here is how to get started:
1. Log In to LoveHeart and navigate to the Journeys feature
2. Click the "+" button at the bottom right corner of your screen
3. Type to find or create a child or you can select the arrow at the end of the child's name to start a journey for that child.
4. To create a Journey for the child you have the option to choose one of the following:
Start with a goal
Set a goal later but set the due date now. This will take you to step 6.
Do not set a goal or due date for a spontaneous & open-ended journey. This will take you to step 7.
5. If you selected "Start with a goal", then you will need to write a goal and add a reason for this goal. If you need some support click on the magic stars and LoveHeart will give you a suggestion based on the child's learning and development. Once you have created the goal, click on "Next".
Tip: Coach Sue will offer some suggested goals that are linked from the child's assessments. The date next to the goal will let you know when the goal was suggested by Coach Sue. Once you have selected a goal, click on "Next".
6. Set a timeframe for the journey to be completed. LoveHeart will offer you some suggestions or you can click on the calendar to choose your own date.
Tip: You can change the goal and the due date at any time by clicking on this section.
7. LoveHeart will automatically create a learning journey set up into the stages of the cycle of Planning.
How to add a learning document to one of the stages
1. Select a Stage: Once the Journey is created, click on the relevant stage where you’d like to add a learning document.
2. Click ‘ + Create’: Within the stage, click + Create.
3. Click on the pencil to choose the document type and then click done.
4. Start with jottings/notes about your observation and the learning that occurred for the child, such as what you observed, into the text/message box. We have a feature now called "Sentinel" this is where you are required to write characters in order for you to create an observation.
5. If you need to provide more detail. LoveHeart will prompt you to let you know more detail is required. LoveHeart will give you the option to "Keep writing" or "Get help from Coach Sue"
6. You can decide to keep writing until sentinel is satisfied or you can "Get help from Coach Sue". Coach Sue is there to help develop your critical thinking and learning that has occurred for the child. Remember if the background is yellow, the conversation with Coach Sue is private.
7. Coach Sue will ask you various questions for you to go ahead and type into the message box and click the "arrow" button to send off.
8. Once sentinel is satisfied through your Coaching Session two buttons will pop up to say "Magically create story" (This is where it will automatically create your story).
or "Insert Transcript" go ahead and click on it to attach that whole conversation into your "Jottings/notes" section.
We suggest that you only click on these buttons when you are satisfied that you have given enough information to create a rich and meaningful learning story.
9. The insert transcript button will take you back to your learning document in the journey. You have an option to select different writing tones. You can choose however many you would like or you do not have to use this feature. Writing tones creates the narrative of you learning observation.
10. You can also choose the length of your observation from "very short" to "long".
11. It's important to point out that LoveHeart will not generate a story if the "Red Shield" is located on the "Blue Arrow" Please ensure you have enough content and in order for this shield to be removed.
12. Final Step! Once you are satisfied with your observation you can now go ahead and click the "Blue Arrow" to start creating an observation for the child. This will be logged under the stage of the child's journey.
Quick tip: If you want to save even more time you can go ahead and use our Voice Memo feature by clicking on the "Microphone" button. This will allow you to record your own voice of the learning that has happened for the child instead of typing! You can record this Voice memo in any language that you feel comfortable in and it will translate your voice memo into English.
Don't forget to take a moment to review and tweak the Learning Story to make sure it’s just how you want it before sharing with families. You’ve got full control over how it’s presented!
Happy creating!
