What are Stages in a Journey?
Updated over a week ago

The stages in a child’s journey are the important steps your centre follows to plan, document, and reflect on each child’s learning and development. Whether your centre uses the EYLF (Early Years Learning Framework) or the NZ Individual Learning Plans, these stages help guide you and your team through the process.

The best part? These stages can be fully customised to fit your centre’s unique approach!

Tailoring the Stages to Your Centre

No two centres are exactly alike, and that’s why the Stages in LoveHeart can be adjusted to match your specific planning process. Whether you stick to the default EYLF or NZ stages or create your own, you’ve got the flexibility to shape the journey in a way that reflects your centre’s values and vision for learning.

To set the Stages for your centre, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Journeys and select Stages in the top left hand corner.

2. Click on the + New Stage to add any additional stages to your Journey.

3. Add a title and context for the new stage and then click on Save to add this Journey stage to your stages.

4. You can also edit the current stages by clicking on the two lines at the end of the stage.

5. A pop up box will appear with the current stage. Edit the text to align with your centre's practice and then submit save to confirm the change to the stage.

6. Stages are filtered to show all active stages but you can click on this green Active to change the filter and see all inactive stages.

Who Can Change the Stages?

The Owner or Manager at your centre is responsible for setting and customising the stages. This helps keep everything consistent across the centre. If you're an educator, don't worry—you’ll still be able to view and follow the stages as part of your planning cycle, but only Owners or Managers can make changes.

Owners or Managers can:

  • Edit the stages to suit your centre's needs

  • Remove stages that aren't necessary

  • Update the stages as your centre evolves or adopts new frameworks

How Do the Stages Fit into the Planning Cycle?

The stages help create a clear and structured pathway for supporting each child’s learning. These stages guide you in supporting each child’s unique development and ensure that your planning process is thorough and consistent.

Where Can I Find the Stages?

You’ll find the stages created in each Journey for a child on LoveHeart. They’re easy to follow and designed to keep you on track throughout the planning process.
