Jottings are a fantastic way to quickly capture observations using text, images, or voice recordings. These short entries allow you to gather important insights about a child’s learning and development over time, which you can later craft into a meaningful Learning Story, Diary Entry, or Letter.
Using jottings helps you document spontaneous moments, and when you’re ready, you can easily combine those notes into a more detailed narrative.
There are two ways to create a Jotting in LoveHeart:
1. Within a Child’s Learning Journey
You can add a Jotting under one of the stages in the child’s Learning Journey. This is ideal when you want to quickly document the child’s progress as part of their cycle of planning.
2. In Journals
If you’re creating a one-off jotting that doesn’t need to be part of a specific planning cycle, you can do so directly in the Journals section. This is perfect for standalone jotting that captures a key moment or unique experiences.
Creating a Jotting Within a Child’s Learning Journey
This method is ideal for adding a jotting as part of a child’s ongoing learning journey and planning cycle.
Navigate to the Journeys feature
2. Click the "+" button at the bottom right corner of your screen
3. Follow the steps in this article to create a Journey. https://help.loveheart.ai/en/articles/8077659-how-do-i-create-a-learning-journey
Let's get started writing:
1. Select a Stage: Once the Journey is created, click on the relevant stage where you’d like to add a Jotting.
2. Click ‘+ Create’: Within the stage, click + Create
3. Click on the pencil to choose Jotting from the options.
4. Once you are satisfied with your jotting you can now go ahead and click the "Blue Arrow" to start creating an jotting for the child. This will add the Learning Story to that Stage of the child's learning Journey.
Quick tip: If you want to save even more time you can go ahead and use our Voice Memo feature by clicking on the "Microphone" button. This will allow you to record your own voice of the learning that has happened for the child instead of typing! You can record this Voice memo in any language that you feel comfortable in and it will translate your voice memo into English.
2. Creating a One-Off Jotting in Journals
If you’re creating a standalone Jotting that isn’t tied to a Learning Journey, use the Journals section.
Go to the Journals Section: From the LoveHeart dashboard, navigate to the Journals section.
Click ‘Create’: Click the ‘Create’ button and select Jotting.
Write Your Entry: Fill in your learning story. You can choose to writing, voice record or add photos. Coach Sue is always there if you need any support.
Send: Once complete, send your Jotting to LoveHeart to magically create. It will now be stored in the Journals section for easy access.
Happy Jotting!
